Exploring the Concept of Innate Nurture

In 2010 I continued a previous exploration using fired clay combined with plant fibre. I wanted to work on the concept of womanhood and motherhood being almost 'out of our control' as women. The role of nurturing for the most part is innate.
I've created some rudimentary sculptural clay figures and some 'womb-like' vessels that incorporate these concepts and materials. I've also applied some 'mark making' to these 'wombs' illustrating my 'connection' to the land and previous work on aerial landscapes.

Mixed Media Flower explorations!

I have continues working on my 2D Mixed Media creations. I find it relaxing to 'play' and experiment with, using flowers as my subject matter. I love exploring colour combinations and using a variety of media within my work. I've even been known to save the tissue paper from a new shoe box and incorporate this! I mostly enjoy working on Watercolour paper but have begun exploring the use of canvas as a ground for my 'flower explorations'.
